Glass Brothers General Store - Ahmeek, Michigan

The Glass Brothers General Store was located at 13 Hubbell Street in Ahmeek, Michigan. It was owned and operated by Samuel Howard Glass (1892-1943) and his brother or brothers. Samuel was a son of Yeal Fruma Lieberman Glass (1983-1940) and Morris Glass (1862-1934). The following information about the store was provided by David Short in July 2020: "This afternoon I went up to Ahmeek to take a picture of the Glass General Store. I was sitting in my car taking the photo and a man pulled up on the other side of the street and walked over and asked, 'Can I help you?' After some introductions I ended up going through the building, and he had all kinds of info on the Glass family. He is the owner, lives in the building and works at Michigan Tech. He showed me some of his research and it seems that Samuel Howard Glass was married to a Betty ALPERT. I know that at least one of the Glass kids married an Azine from Hancock at Adas Israel in Duluth - 1919." Trulia.com provided the following information on the current building that once housed Glass Ganeral Store: "Commercial property [NOT] for sale in Ahmeek, MI - - 116,900 USD - - Original location for Glass Brothers General Store...then Liikala Hardware...most recently True North Gallery. This 8000 sf building still has historical features such as tin ceiling, atrium, ornate staircase and woodwork, and some original general store shelving. Five rental units plus the main floor commercial space create an ideal live/work situation. Located along the Keweenaw traffic pattern via Five-Mile Point, this property has been a successful retail location."
